An afternoon full of knowledge, surprise and emotion was experienced at the New Acropolis School in Castellón by those attending the master lecture given by the teacher, musician, artist, writer and philosopher Sebastián Pérez. Through a fascinating journey through history, Pérez explored the figure of Pythagoras, the famous Greek philosopher considered the first musician-scientist in history.
During the lecture, the speaker explained the importance of the Pythagorean investigations into the mathematical relationships of sound, the music of the spheres and proportions. With his characteristic didactic skill, Pérez captivated the audience not only with his speech, but also with interactive demonstrations. The audience was able to experience first-hand the mathematical principles of sound using a harmonograph and a monochord, instruments that demonstrated the connection between music and mathematics.
Sebastián Pérez emphasised that disciplines such as acoustics and cymatics continue to reveal the profound relationship between mathematics and harmony in nature, human beings and the cosmos. Furthermore, through the piano, he showed how mathematical proportions are reflected in the beauty of sound.
The event left an indelible mark on the audience, who experienced first-hand the connection between science and art. A day in which music and mathematics intertwined to reveal the mysteries of harmony and beauty in nature, which show us the hand of an Intelligence that governs the Natural Laws that always bring us closer to the beauty and perfection of these principles on which life revolves.
