When Gandhi was born 150 years ago in India, the country was under British rule. Back then many young Hindus saw the English as heroes and wanted to become English knights.
He traveled to London to study law, and that is where he discovered the authentic spiritual tradition of India and the teachings that will permeate his life. He traveled to South Africa to practice law and seeing the injustice of laws oppressing non-white people he began to rebel against this.

His main weapon was ive resistance, nonviolence. Back in India he became hailed as a hero and eventually got his country freed from British rule. Although killed, Mahatma (great soul) Gandhi remains, on the 150th anniversary of his birth, more alive than ever.
